Celebrate the Season Safely: Moderate-Risk Activities

The COVID-19 pandemic has made most go into isolation. With the upcoming holiday season, reconnecting with family and friends may be tricky. Consider how your plans can still happen but be modified. This will help keep your loved ones and community healthy and safe for the new year.

Small household gatherings are, in fact, a big contributor to the rise in COVID-19 cases. However, the CDC has provided guidelines to reduce the risk of spread. Please note, these are not replacements of any state or tribal health and safety orders. Follow the rules of your local community first and foremost.

Moderate-risk activities

Consider the number of coronavirus cases in your community. If the number is relatively low or declining, having a small outdoor dinner with those who live near you may be okay. If able to host something like this, be sure to limit the number of guests. It’s also important to have conversations with them ahead of time to set clear expectations.

Strategically place hand sanitizer throughout your backyard and encourage face masks until people are sitting down with their meals while maintaining social distance. Be sure to clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces throughout dining, too.

Other activities include:

  • Visiting pumpkin patches where people use hand sanitizer before touching pumpkins, wearing masks is encouraged/enforced and where people can maintain social distancing
  • Attending a small outdoor sporting event with safety precautions in place
