Traditional Arrow Workshop

Presented by Rebalancing Culture Program

Tonka Chee hosted an engaging Traditional Arrow Workshop for the community, marking a first-time experience for many participants. Attendees had the opportunity to create their own arrows using materials from a fresh harvest. Tonka shared traditional stories and explained how he gathered the supplies from Mother Earth and the mountains of Utah, deepening everyone’s appreciation for the project.

It was heartwarming to see adults sharing the creative process with the youth they brought along, fostering meaningful connections among participants. They worked with a simple selection of materials, including willow, flint, pine sap glue, deer sinew, and imitation turkey feathers. Each participant received clear instructions, allowing them to create at their own pace and enjoy the experience together.

Rhonda, the coordinator of the Rebalancing Culture Program, noted that one key takeaway from the workshop was how much she values offering these classes. She found it inspiring to witness the growth that emerges from these creative activities and to see participants connect with the beauty of their culture and traditions. While not everyone can return to their homestead, being able to bring a sense of “Home” to the community fills her heart with love and light. She is excited to continue offering more enriching experiences!
