Four Simple Ways to Reflect on Lifestyle Choices this Men’s Health Week

Father’s Day is right around the corner. What better way to celebrate Dad, and all the other men in your life, than by recognizing National Men’s Health Week, too!

Men’s Health Week begins June 14th. It’s a time to remind men to seek medical advice by getting regular checkups, staying active, eating healthy foods and making mental health a priority.

Not sure what your first step should be? One of the best ways to celebrate the occasion is to encourage those you love to make an appointment they have been putting off, or one they may have completely forgotten about. The main purpose of the week is to bring awareness to preventable health problems in men and encourage early detection and treatment.

Between appointments, one of the best ways to stay healthy is to get that heart rate moving! Your body will thank you for going to the gym, taking a walk or chasing around the kids or grandkids! Who knows? It might also spark the start of a weekly ritual. Remember, research says it typically takes 21 days to form a habit.

Having a great workout routine doesn’t mean much if you’re not properly fueling your body. Eating a balanced meal three times a day and snacking on healthier options in the meantime boosts your metabolism and provides more energy each morning. A great, Indigenous dinner option is making Three Sisters Soup! It’s not only healthy, but delicious.

Taking all the preventative measures above is a great base to build up your mental health. However, seeking help and support from a medical professional is always recommended amid any lifestyle change. Consider making an appointment in addition to your frequent screenings!

Keep in mind that these elements of Men’s Health Week should be carried on throughout the year. Make your health a priority. Start now!
