SUMMARY:2 Spirit Spoken-Word Writing Workshop!
DESCRIPTION:As part of UICSL’s events to celebrate Pride Month in June\, Red Mesa Behavioral Health is partnering with Salt Lake Community College to offer a workshop and spoken word event. Both events are free and open to anyone. \nTwo Spirit Pow Wow: Spoken-word Writing Workshop: 2-part workshop \nWednesdays: June 8th & 15th from 7:00 – 8:00 pm \nIn honor and celebration of the Two Spirit Powwow and Pride Month\, SLCC’s Community Writing Center (CWC) and Student Writing & Reading Center (SWRC) are hosting a spoken-word writing workshop series. For Part 1 on June 8th\, we will explore narrative poetry and flash memoir writing centered on LGBTQIA2S+ experiences intended to be performed in front of an audience. The workshop will focus on using narrative elements such as characterization\, setting\, point-of-view\, imagery\, rhyme\, and rhythm to tell stories about history\, identity\, culture\, and community. \nPart 2 on June 15th will take the form of a “Two Spirit Open Mic Night.” Participants from Part 1 of the workshop series and other members of the community are invited to share their spoken-word poetry\, songs\, and/or memoirs live at the CWC. Light refreshments will be provided. \nNOTE: This workshop series was created in collaboration with the Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake\, Salt Lake Community College\, and the SLCC Gender and Sexuality Student Resource Center.
